Chilled water: Marine Air Conditioning Definition

A chiller cools a loop of fresh water; fan-coil units in each cabin draw from the loop.

Chilled water in a Boat Air Conditioning System

The system that scales. Adding a zone means adding a fan coil rather than another refrigerant run, and every cabin gets its own thermostat. It is the quietest option at 42–44 dB, and it costs a plumbing loop through the whole boat. Catamarans reach it earlier than monohulls of the same length, because two hulls cannot share ducting.

Using Chilled water Specifications in Quotes and Manuals

Use this definition to understand a quote, manual or fault report—not as an instruction to modify the boat. Before buying, compare the wording against the current manufacturer documentation. For refrigerant, fixed 240 V wiring or below-waterline work, use the official licensing and standards sources and an appropriately qualified tradesperson.
