R410A and R32: Marine Air Conditioning Definition
The refrigerants in current marine units. R410A is standard; newer designs are moving to R32.
R410A and R32 in a Boat Air Conditioning System
R32 is more efficient and has about a third of the global-warming potential, but it is mildly flammable so installers need the right ticket. Older self-contained units on R134a are still serviceable while the gas remains available. A unit on a refrigerant that is being phased out is a system near the end of its economic life, whatever its condition.
Using R410A and R32 Specifications in Quotes and Manuals
Use this definition to understand a quote, manual or fault report—not as an instruction to modify the boat. Before buying, compare the wording against the current manufacturer documentation. For refrigerant, fixed 240 V wiring or below-waterline work, use the official licensing and standards sources and an appropriately qualified tradesperson.
