Seawater pump: Marine Air Conditioning Definition
The pump that moves cooling water through the condenser. Centrifugal, and it must sit below the waterline.
Seawater pump in a Boat Air Conditioning System
The part that fails first and most often on a marine air conditioning system. These are centrifugal pumps, not flexible-impeller ones, so there is no annual impeller change — they lose prime, wear a seal, or fail electrically. Mounted above the waterline a centrifugal pump will not self-prime, which causes faults that come and go with heel.
Using Seawater pump Specifications in Quotes and Manuals
Use this definition to understand a quote, manual or fault report—not as an instruction to modify the boat. Before buying, compare the wording against the current manufacturer documentation. For refrigerant, fixed 240 V wiring or below-waterline work, use the official licensing and standards sources and an appropriately qualified tradesperson.
