Marine Air Conditioning Commissioning Handover Checklist
What to record at commissioning: installed equipment, controls, normal operation, maintenance access and warranty contacts.
Handover is the moment to turn an installed system into a system you understand. Ask the contractor to demonstrate it in the configuration you will actually use, with the intended cabins closed and the agreed power supply connected. The aim is to establish normal operation and responsibilities. An owner checklist does not replace the installer’s commissioning procedure or required electrical checks.
Installed Marine Air Conditioner Models and Records
Keep the make, model and serial number of the air conditioner, controller and seawater pump, together with the invoice and installation date. Ask for the final layout if it differs from the quote. Record where filters, seacocks, strainers and access panels are located. A future service call becomes much easier when the technician knows which equipment and installation they are dealing with.
Air Conditioning Operation During the Handover
Have the installer demonstrate start-up, temperature adjustment and shut-down. Ask what discharge flow and operating sound are normal for this installation, and what changes require stopping the system. Check that the intended cabins receive air and that controls are understandable to the person who uses the boat most often. Ask how mode changes and power interruptions should be handled for this specific controller.
Warranty Contacts and Post-Installation Follow-Up
Ask who handles installation workmanship, equipment warranty and problems which appear after the first trip. Keep the manuals and maintenance schedule in one place. Clarify which tasks are owner checks and which require a technician. If something remains unfinished, record it with a responsible person and an agreed next step instead of relying on a verbal promise at the dock.
Marine Air Conditioning Handover Checklist
- Save model numbers, manuals and installer contact details.
- Demonstrate operation with normal cabin doors and stores.
- Record unfinished items and the agreed follow-up.
Is this a specification for my boat?
No. This guide helps you prepare observations and questions. Installation details, operating limits and service procedures depend on the vessel and the exact equipment. Use the current manual and a qualified provider to confirm them.
Editorial basis: an original owner-planning checklist, not a product test or a vessel inspection. For model-specific procedures, use the manufacturer’s document library and the official resources. See our editorial policy.
Marine Air Conditioning Handover Record
Keep a dated record with the installer. Note the marina supply, cabin conditions, operating mode and closed-door arrangement during the demonstration. A demonstration establishes a baseline under those conditions, not performance in every climate.
- Equipment model and serial numbers, controller model and manual locations.
- Demonstrated operation, normal discharge and condensate destination.
- Owner-accessible filters and checks, with model-specific service instructions.
- Any unresolved item, responsible person and agreed follow-up date.
- Warranty contact, invoice and responsibility for installation workmanship.
Ask the installer to show the normal shutdown and fault-reporting process. Keep protective settings as commissioned. Photograph accessible labels and approved service points so future enquiries identify the correct equipment.
