Marine Air Conditioner Dimensions and Locker Fit

The short answer

Measure the locker before you shortlist anything. Self-contained units need clearance for the blower discharge and the return air as well as the box itself, plus room to get a hand to the strainer and the electrical connections. A unit that fits the hole but cannot be serviced is a decision you will regret slowly.

Boat Air Conditioner Dimensions and Locker Fit — Requirements and Limitations

Capacity and physical size do not track neatly. A compact 12k unit may fit a locker that a 10k unit from another maker will not, because the blower is arranged differently. Get the actual datasheet dimensions rather than working from a category.

If nothing fits, that is the argument for a split: the compressor goes wherever there is room — a lazarette, an engine room — and only a slim air handler needs to be in the accommodation. This is the commonest reason owners of otherwise ordinary boats end up with a split.

For a dimensional shortlist, compare the equipment drawing, blower outlet orientation and minimum clearances with the locker opening. The separate locker-layout checklist is for documenting service access and storage after a candidate unit has been chosen. The comparison table does not provide verified dimensions for every model.

Each of these answers a different part of the same problem.
