Calculate Boat Air Conditioning Cost per Night
The short answer
Multiply electrical input in kW by the hours each load runs, then multiply total kWh by the electricity tariff actually charged at your berth. Treat compressor duty cycle and pump operating time separately. A quoted BTU cooling capacity is not the electrical input to use in the calculation.
Calculate Boat Air Conditioning Cost per Night — Requirements and Limitations
Worked example: 1.5 kW at 60% duty for eight hours is 7.2 kWh. A 0.09 kW pump running all eight hours adds 0.72 kWh. At an illustrative A$0.35/kWh tariff, 7.92 kWh costs about A$2.77. These are assumptions, not a measured product result or a current marina tariff.
Some marinas include power in the berth charge; others meter or apply separate fees. Use the marina agreement or bill, and include chargers and other appliances if estimating the total berth consumption. At anchor, assess generator fuel or battery recharge as a separate calculation.
