Descaling a Marine Air Conditioning Condenser
Marine growth and scale build up inside the condenser coil and quietly reduce capacity. An annual job, and the one most owners skip.
Descaling a Marine Air Conditioning Condenser: Schedule and Equipment
Even with a clean strainer, the inside of the condenser tube gradually coats with scale and marine growth. It is invisible and it is progressive — most owners describe it as the unit "not being what it was", which is exactly what it is.
Descaling a Marine Air Conditioning Condenser: Procedure
If you skip it: Capacity falls a few per cent a year until the system is genuinely undersized for the boat, and owners replace units that only needed cleaning.
Record the date, what you found and any parts used in the boat's maintenance log. A repeat change—less water flow, faster fouling, a new smell or a breaker that trips again—is often more useful to a technician than a one-off reading. Check the current manual and official sources before changing the procedure, and stop at the licensed-work boundary described in the disclaimer.
