Return air: Marine Air Conditioning Definition
The path air takes back to the unit, and the grille it passes through. It should be larger than the supply.
Return air in a Boat Air Conditioning System
The most commonly restricted part of a marine air conditioning system. A furred filter, a grille blocked by stowage, or an undersized opening will drop capacity noticeably and make the fan whine — and the symptom looks exactly like a refrigeration fault. Oversizing the return grille lets the fan run on low, which is quieter.
Using Return air Specifications in Quotes and Manuals
Use this definition to understand a quote, manual or fault report—not as an instruction to modify the boat. Before buying, compare the wording against the current manufacturer documentation. For refrigerant, fixed 240 V wiring or below-waterline work, use the official licensing and standards sources and an appropriately qualified tradesperson.
