Undersized Marine Air Conditioning or a Cooling Fault?
The short answer
Compare current cooling with the boat’s previous performance under similar conditions. New loss of cooling suggests a fault or changed load; a system that has never met the design conditions may be undersized or poorly distributed. One supply-air temperature reading cannot establish the cause.
Undersized Boat AC or a Cooling Fault? — Requirements and Limitations
Record cabin and supply-air temperatures, seawater conditions, occupied cabins, door positions and operating time. Check accessible filters and grilles as directed by the manual. Cooling at one outlet does not establish adequate total capacity or airflow to every cabin.
Ask the technician to compare performance with the exact model’s operating data and the original design brief. Replace or resize equipment only after distinguishing heat load, air distribution, seawater performance and refrigeration faults.
