Marine Air Conditioning: Seawater vs Refrigerant Faults
The short answer
Observe the seawater discharge and compare it with normal operation, then check accessible airflow restrictions. Weak or missing discharge points to a seawater-flow problem. Visible flow does not rule out a fouled condenser, inadequate flow or warm-water performance limits, and it does not prove a refrigerant fault.
Boat AC: Seawater vs Refrigerant Faults — Requirements and Limitations
Record the model, operating mode, controller message and whether the fault changes with berth or sea conditions. Stop the system if seawater flow is lost; repeated running is not a useful test.
Refrigerant diagnosis needs appropriate instruments and a suitably licensed technician. Do not open the refrigerant circuit or electrical enclosures. Use observations to direct the service enquiry, not to choose a replacement component without diagnosis.
